“Don’t Go”, the song by British synth-pop band Yazoo, was released in 1982 as the second single from their debut album, Upstairs at Eric’s.
The song peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Yazoo’s second top 5 hit. The synth riff intro is one of the most iconic to the synthpop movement.
It was created through Vince Clarke’s Sequential Circuit Pro 1 , the little and extremely flexible monosynth with lots of modulation possibilities.
I’ve recreated that sound on Ableton live with the also flexible Analog Instrument
The Oscillators
Set the oscillators on square wave and set them in this way:
- Osc 1: 0.00 dB, octave -1
- Osc 2: -27 dB, Octave -2, Semi 7st,
- Noise: -22 dB
The Filter Section
Set a 24 dB/octave Low pass filter in this way:
- Freq: 66
- Reso: 24%
- Filter ADSR: A: 31 ms, D: 45 ms, S:0, R: 71 ms
- Key track: 1,35
- Env amount: 10.11
- Lfo on Frequency: 0.05
- Envelope Slope: Linear
The Amp Section and the Lfo’s
Set The envelope slope on linear for a more analog “vintage” effect and look at the ADSR parameter on the screenshoot
Apply a PWM to both Square oscillators using two fast triangle wave Lfo’s.
